What is the purpose of a Christian testimony?

In the past 24 hours, I've heard 2 testimonies of faith. One of homosexual gossip columnist Perez Hilton, who shared of an encounter with God during a hospital stay, the other a theologian who shared how his formerly promiscuous wife was radically transformed by God's grace. Guess which one Christians on the internet decided to ridicule? Hint: not Perez.  Despite being baffled by these reactions or lack thereof, it raises an interesting question about what purpose one's personal testimony serves and how we can tell whether one's testimony indicates whether the person has truly understood the Gospel message. The negative reaction to one makes me understand why some are reluctant to share testimonies or even struggles with other believers for fear of ridicule. I honestly expected more pushback towards Perez. No one is perfect until heaven and we shouldn't have too high of expectations regarding who our children marry or what someone's conversion will be like...

WHY BATMAN WOULD SUPPORT ICE

A few weeks ago I came across a post from a comic book artist that I follow which depicted Batman putting an ICE agent in an arm bar. Later, he deleted and then reposted the same image featuring the caption, "I was born to fight your brand of order!" This line was originally spoken by Batman in the Batman: the Animated Series episode, "Lock-Up". The character of Lock-Up is a vigilante of sorts that was created for the show. This character takes ordinary Gotham citizens and leaders that he deems guilty (such as police, news reporters and the mayor) and imprisons them in his personal, private prison. It is implied that Lock-Up is right-wing politically. Thus, it seems like an accurate comparison since ICE agents are also aligned with the right and they seem to unjustly going after people. But is that really what is happening?   In the episode, Lyle Bolton alias Lock-Up goes on a rampage and goes after people he personally deems guilty without any trial. In reality...

20 QUESTIONS FOR CHRISTIANS WHO LISTEN TO CANDACE OWENS

Candace Owens is a popular figure right now, particularly among conservatives. There are many who think that she is right on target about what she is saying and there are also many who believe that she is dangerously divisive. As such, this is increasingly becoming a point of contention amongst fellow conservatives and Christians, who may be otherwise likeminded. While discussion and hearing out various perspectives is sometimes helpful and important, I feel like people have already made up their minds about this subject, so I thought I would approach this differently. As Candace is fond of saying, she’s “just asking questions.” So I will do the same. The following is a list of questions that I would like my brothers and sisters in Christ who listen and believe Candace to seriously and prayerfully reflect on. 1. Has listening to Candace Owens brought you closer to the Lord?  2. Has listening to Candace Owens increased your love for the lost or are you becoming increasingl...

We Have Forgotten

On this day 24 years ago, tragedy struck the nation of the United States of America as terrorists hijacked commercial airplanes and flew them into the world trade center, killing hundreds of lives. In the face of such horrific tragedy, the American people demonstrated resilience. We hugged, we mourned, we helped, we served. It didn't matter if you were black, white, Democrat or Republican. We were all Americans first. There was a collective nationalism and patriotic unity we all felt and it helped us heal. Fast forward 24 years later the day before the anniversary of the tragedy of 9/11, a man is brutally shot while debating his political views in the public square. He dies from his wounds soon after and many leftists are laughing and cheering. Their reasoning? He was a hate monger and white supremacist who held views that put people in danger. This is where we've devolved to as a culture. All thanks to such a poisonous ideology that changes how we see our nation and ourselves...

Batman Caped Crusader Review

Like many fans, I was excited for the Batman Caped Crusader show as it was the first animated Batman show in several years and from the mind of Bruce Timm, who was one of the geniuses behind Batman: The Animated Series . Reviews have been mixed, with some people loving it while others hated it. I see valid points in both perspectives and have generally mixed feelings about the show as a whole.  I really enjoyed that they were paying homage to Batman's early crimefighting days in the golden age comics, even referring to him as "the Bat-Man" at first, in reference to his early appearances in the comics. There were many fun references to Batman the Animated series, as well as Batman '66 and even the 1940's film serials. We saw new iterations of Clayface, Harley Quinn, Catwoman, Penguin, Gentleman Ghost, and Two-Face with some keeping the character relatively the same while others made drastic changes. One of those drastic changes was to turn the Penguin into a femal...

The Wrong Earth: Dead Ringers #2 & 3 Review (Dynamite, 2024)

Image
The Wrong Earth: Dead Ringers #2 & 3 (Dynamite, 2024) Description: In issue 2, Dragonflyman and Dragonfly encounter both Stingers stockpiling firearms. They get a lecture from Dragonflyman, then Dragonflyman and Stinger go after the villainous Copycat. Later, Earth Alpha’s Richard Fame grants a scholarship to Jordan Reese aka Stinger II. On Earth Alpha, Lady Dragonflyman escapes a mental institution and Dragonfly is drinking away his sorrows on Earth Alpha.  In issue 3, Dragonflyman captures Dragonfly and they have a conversation about his reckless behavior as well as the nature of the Megaverse. My thoughts: Since Facebook removed this post from my Facebook page twice, I'm going to post it here so hopefully this’ll stay up. This is a good story so far! I liked Copycat disguising himself as a character resembling Bluto from Popeye. Earth Alpha Richard Fame really resembles Adam West and I tried to imitate his voice as I read it aloud.  Issue 3 was really interesting...

Jesus Revolution movie review

I went to see the Jesus Revolution movie on opening night. The film was being touted as a great evangelism tool and a potential way to spark the next revival in our culture. Christians today almost instantly latch onto things where Jesus is portrayed positively, so I wanted to see for myself. I've been reading The Gospel's Power and Message by Paul Washer with a Bible study group and wanted to see how closely it aligned with how the book describes the Gospel.  The short answer is, it didn't. There are varied reactions to this movie. Amongst Christians, many are praising it, while others are calling it a completely false message. Amongst unbelievers, it's gaining traction through big-time talk show interviews with cast members, while others are just dismissing it as nonsense.  So what happens in the actual film? The film follows Pastor Chuck Smith's newfound friendship with a nomadic-type individual named Lonnie Frisbee. Frisbee, played in the film by Jonathan Roum...
