The Batman movie review

     I saw The Batman yesterday. I thought Robert Pattison did a decent job, as did other actors.  My favorite scene was the scene between Bruce and Alfred in the hospital. I liked the references to Batman stories such as the Long Halloween. A major turn-off for me was the profanity, particularly the constant use of the name of Jesus as a profanity, which is the sin of blasphemy. I may be a Batman fan, but I love Jesus more. It really ruined the film for me.  

Since the Riddler was the main villain of the film, in true Riddler fashion, allow me to pose a riddle of my own:

Riddle me this: Why is Jesus the only religious figure, and person in general, whose name is used as a profanity? How much do you have to hate someone to use their name as a profanity?  

Could the answer be that maybe, just maybe, Christianity is true, and that Jesus is actually God? Could it be because this world hates Jesus, just as He said? “If the world hates you, keep in mind that it hated me first.” (John 15:18) Could it be because the name of Jesus is actually powerful and is the only name by which we can be saved, and that the best way to tarnish such a powerful name is flippantly use it as a curse word without even thinking about what you’re saying? 

On my list of favorite Batman movies, this one did not even make it to the top 10.  

I can almost hear Adam West’s Batman chiding the characters of this bat-universe about their excessive profanity…

What is the purpose of a Christian testimony?

      In the past 24 hours, I've heard 2 testimonies of faith. One of homosexual gossip columnist Perez Hilton, who shared of an encounter with God during a hospital stay, the other a theologian who shared how his formerly promiscuous wife was radically transformed by God's grace. Guess which one Christians on the internet decided to ridicule? Hint: not Perez.  Despite being baffled by these reactions or lack thereof, it raises an interesting question about what purpose one's personal testimony serves and how we can tell whether one's testimony indicates whether the person has truly understood the Gospel message. The negative reaction to one makes me understand why some are reluctant to share testimonies or even struggles with other believers for fear of ridicule. I honestly expected more pushback towards Perez. No one is perfect until heaven and we shouldn't have too high of expectations regarding who our children marry or what someone's conversion will be like...

We Have Forgotten

 On this day 24 years ago, tragedy struck the nation of the United States of America as terrorists hijacked commercial airplanes and flew them into the world trade center, killing hundreds of lives. In the face of such horrific tragedy, the American people demonstrated resilience. We hugged, we mourned, we helped, we served. It didn't matter if you were black, white, Democrat or Republican. We were all Americans first. There was a collective nationalism and patriotic unity we all felt and it helped us heal. Fast forward 24 years later the day before the anniversary of the tragedy of 9/11, a man is brutally shot while debating his political views in the public square. He dies from his wounds soon after and many leftists are laughing and cheering. Their reasoning? He was a hate monger and white supremacist who held views that put people in danger.
